YOGI: Lorraine
AGE: Not sure how I feel about sharing my age, so I'll go with proud ;)RESIDE: Perth, Western Australia
ETHNIC BACKGROUND: Born in the Philippines, raised in Australia from the age of 3.
STUDENT: I'm not 100% sure when I finished my beginners course with 8 Limbs in Leederville, I think it may have been around 2008. And I only ever really saluted the sun when i felt like it. It's only been in the last year that i have sunk myself into regular classes, because i found the best studio ever 😁
TEACHER: How long have you been teaching or who is your yoga teacher?
YOUR STUDIO: The Yoga Tent and my house
What did you think of yoga before you tried it for yourself?
I had no strong opinions on it, I just knew i liked the look of it and the idea of stretching and breathing.
Why do you LOVE practicing yoga now?
Because breathing and stretching is so good for my body, I enjoy how it makes me feel and I love it. I don't suffer from body aches in the mornings like i used to and i just love the time spent on me.
Do you think yoga has changed you in anyway (yes or no) if yes ... WHY?
Yes I think so, i think it's made me more woo woo and spiritual haha, honest. Just placing my hands together at the end of practice makes me feel peaceful, loved and grateful. Since joining the Yoga Tent, I've made some new friends and connections and I never thought I'd be wearing matching yoga outfits.
What do you believe are the long term benefits of practicing yoga?
For me, I believe it's a practice that will always be there for me and a practice I can do anywhere and anytime, that will keep my mind and body intact. In the long term, it will 100% keep me strong and flexible and will help reduce every day stresses. Sitting with my breathe for 5 minutes or going to a class for an hour is precious.
Do you recommend yoga to people, your friends, family? If so what is their response?
100%, especially when they mention they have tight muscles or feeling stressed. Their usual responses are "they have no time" or "they're not flexible enough". And that's when i say, "they should always make time for themselves and when i started, I couldn't touch my toes!"
